FINE FOOD: 8 area chefs/restaurants
are donating talents as well as food
for a grazing experience.
FINE ART: Several area artists are exhibiting
their works for your eyes to feast upon.
MUSIC: Area musicians will give
an abundance of sound for your pleasure.

  April 23, 2011    Grand Opening of the 2011 WVS summer season
        10am – 2pm
  An event not to be missed – this event will kick off the exciting   
  and colorful season of the Wyoming Valley School with an Easter 
  Egg hunt, Earth Day activities and a ribbon cutting ceremony,   
  celebrating the new beautiful venue of our local community to   
  celebrate the arts, educate and gather. 
 
        Free admission.
 
 
  May 1, 2011    Lasagna Garden Installation workshop with Roger Reynolds
        1pm – 3pm
  Come for a hands–on morning-workshop to learn about the concept of 
  the “Lasagna Garden” through a in-depth presentation and implement 
  the newly acquired skills in the  installation of a community garden right 
  on site. The session will end with a potluck picnic, inviting all   
  participants to chat and meet.

6pm – 9:30pm
  15 local published authors present their methods and ideologies in a 
  speakers forum. Book-sales & interaction with authors. Display of portraits
  of these authors by River Valley School art students. Refreshments.

   June 2, 2011    Honeybee workshop with Jeanne Hanson
        6pm 
  Learn all about bees, honey, beeswax, pollen and pollination, 
  history of beekeeping, and recent threats to honeybees.  Taste 
  real honey and pollen. See and handle lots of props. No previous 
  skills necessary.

  coordination, concentration, problem solving, math & fine motor skills

  June 7, 14, 21, 28, July 5, 12     Six-week astronomy and star gazing course with John Heasley
       8pm – 9pm class- followed by stargazing on clear nights
  NASA has proclaimed 2010-2012 to be the “Year of the Solar System”
  Participants will learn about the many worlds of our Solar System and 
  the many discoveries being made the spacecraft we are
  sending to them.  On clear nights, we will use telescopes and binoculars
  to learn more about the night sky.  Enjoy the dark skies of the Wyoming
  Valley as we explore other worlds.

June 15       Pioneer Day 
        10am – 2pm          
  Fun hands-on day in the country and learning how our settlers lived and
  played. Hand dipped candles, weaving project, rag doll making. Once 
  upon a time games, marbles to take home. Instructor: Nicole Feiner, 
  years of interest in the Pioneer life style has given life to Nicole’s 
  programs. Adult helpers on hand. Limited enrollment. No walk-ins. 
  Materials & a snack provided; bring a bag lunch.   $10 admission fee
   Children under 9 need to be accompanied by an adult

  June 13 - 17    Elementary Children’s choir with Jennifer Snow
        2pm – 4pm
  For one week, 3 hours per day (9a.m. – 12 p.m.), 16+ elementary school 
  children will participate in a children’s choir.  The rehearsal will   
  incorporate vocal and physical warm-ups, singing a varied repertoire of 
  3-5 songs, some movement/choreography, and playing instruments (as 
  accompaniment to the music and as rehearsal learning tools).  The camp
  will culminate in a presentation/concert for parents and community 
  members on the final day of camp.

  July 16, 2011       Saving memories: preserving old papers and photographs
        9am – 2pm 
  Learn what to keep in your personal “archives” and how to save 
  old paper and photos.  Bring photos/certificates/letters for hands 
  on preservation. Learn to date your old photos.

  College, Decorah, Iowa.*Archival gloves included.*Bring a bag
